When Arrell Engineering was founded in 1954 in the undulating countryside near Glasgow, they couldn't foresee the success that they would enjoy over the next 55 years. Currently employing 20 people, the company has become a highly respected manufacturer of stainless components used in all major bottling plants throughout the UK and Europe.
Arrell has always maintained a healthy investment program and to meet the demands of extra contracts the company decided to buy two extra TL-15 cnc lathes to compliment their exisiting family of HAAS TL lathes and Mini Mills.
Vince Walker, company director, says "Arrell has increased its customer base by 40% since the start of 2009, and still has capacity to grow further, this is mostly due to the introduction of the sub-spindled cnc lathes by HAAS, which have not only added to Arrell’s output capacity but continue to offer our customers excellent value for money. We are now extremely competitive when sourcing bespoke parts and offering a very short lead time if required.
"To meet the needs of our customers, we have to be able to get on with jobs quickly and cost effectively. Originally, we looked at a few other machine tool suppliers before settling on HAAS. "We visited the MACH exhibition and spent a long time weighing up the pros and cons of the major machine tool suplliers, but we soon realised that we couldn't do any better than the cost and specifications of the US built HAAS lathe and we are very happy with our choice."
"The majority of our machinists have been trained in-house on the HAAS cnc machines. We can easily get someone up and running as an operator then, later on, we can quickly teach them to program and set. The simple, universal control means operators can change from one machine to another, whether it's a lathe or a vertical, without being confused."
Haas Automation's TL-15 turning centre is a dual-spindle 30hp CNC lathe built on the very popular Haas SL-20 foundation. Double-end part capability, a max capacity of 210 x 444 mm and a bar capacity of 51 mm (main spindle) make this twin-spindle turning centre a high-production machine.
