CNC Lathes sold thanks to the power of the web

Story added 07 February 2010.

Based in Kettering, Northamptonshire, Integrated Design Technology provided component manufacture to many of the nations largest producers of defence security products in the UK.

From 1992 to 2009 Integrated Design Technology had become an integral part in the production of security cabinets, volts and safety mechanisms for some of the most high profile organisations in the UK. In order to maintain a competitive edge and provide quality component manufacture, the business invested heavily in technology on both the machining and fabrication side.

In 2009 after over a decade of year on year growth, IDT sold the manufacturing rights and product ownership to a hungary buyer based in the Midlands, this left IDT with a small machine shop and a healthy bank balance. Following the buyout IDT were left in the possession of three CNC lathes, completely surplus to requirement. Having known the power of the web and always hearing about MTD, IDT decided to list their lathes for sale on the MTD website.

Within two weeks they had received thirteen enquiries, within four weeks they had sold the machines.

The power of internet marketing must never be under estimated even in an industry considered to be behind the times.
