CNC Machine Shop Cleaning system debuted at Mach 2010

Story added 08 March 2010.

Celebrating its 25th year in business at MACH 2010, the exhibition will be a special event for Air Cleaning Systems Ltd (acs) of Cardiff. The company will be demonstrating its exceptional airborne particulate removal systems and the new mobile universal low pressure cleaner range from PH-Cleantec that will be shown at MACH for the first time on Stand 5190.

The Cleantec SRK1000-AS is an innovative new machine that heats water or coolant to conduct machine cleaning operations with great ease and efficiently, whilst the acs OMF1000 media air cleaner removes coolant mist/smoke from machining applications. Visitors to the stand will have the opportunity to operate the Cleantec SRK1000-AS and see the OMF1000 system at MACH to witness the benefits first hand.

With oil and coolant mist increasingly problematic in modern high performance machine tools, acs will be keen to emphasise the health and safety benefits of the OMF1000 by highlighting its benefits at the event.

acs will be demonstrating the benefits of its free standing OMF1000 unit that is designed for direct attachment to most machine tools. The highly efficient media air cleaner has been developed for machining applications where high and low pressure coolant is used. With an air volume of 1000m3h and a 500W motor that generates a noise level below 68dB, the compact 120kg unit comfortably fits into any machine shop or tool room with minimal disruption.

The OMF1000 has a two stage filtration system designed for continuous operation. The first stage comprises a high efficiency cartridge that captures the mist particulate and releases the collected coolant, allowing it to drain from the sump of the unit to the drain pan supplied. The second stage of the machine comprises a HEPA cartridge that removes submicron particulates with an efficiency of 99.9%. This results in the clean air being returned to the machine shop, creating a cleaner, healthier working environment for shop floor employees.

Alongside the OMF1000 will be the PH-Cleantec SRK1000-AS machine cleaning system. Since becoming the sole UK distributor for the new mobile cleaner range from PH-Cleantec in 2009, acs has witnessed an extremely high level of interest. The SRK1000-AS heats water or coolant to 95 degrees C in under a minute to conduct machine cleaning operations. It works at an operating pressure from 3 to 7.5Bar to clean components and machine tools.

The SRK1000-AS is ideal for manufacturers that use a variety of materials on machine tools and cannot allow swarf contamination from one material to the next. The system will rapidly remove any swarf or excess material eliminating the risk of contamination. For maintenance departments, the extremely mobile cleaning unit can be wheeled to any machine in a production area within minutes, credit to its lightweight 55kg frame. To further improve access to machine tools, the unit has a 5m suction hose, 8m power cable and 5m lance cable attached to a standard 600mm lance.

The flexibility of the 1000SRK-AS enables maintenance/service engineers to comfortably load/unload the unit from a vehicle or storage facility direct to the area to be cleaned with exceptional ease. Once in place, the compact mobile unit that has no fluid tank can suck liquid directly from the machine tool coolant sump or can be connected to an external water tap providing a variable spray water volume from 1 to 1.8litre/per minute. This provides maintenance staff with a solution to removing stubborn marks, oil, swarf and stains from the area to be cleaned. acs also has a number of PH-Cleantec systems available for cleaning components as well as machine tools.

Beside the OMF1000 media filtration system and 1000SRK-AS machine cleaning system, the Cardiff based manufacturer will also been keen to highlight its extended range of mist and fume control equipment. acs manufactures a range of downdraft filter benches for grinding, fettling, sanding and ingredient weighing applications. Additionally, downdraught carbon filter benches for solvent and gluing applications are also available.
