Toolholding demos to 'go nationwide'
Story added 10 June 2009.
LMT, a
CNC machining specialist based in Coventry, is to hit the road with a customised demonstration vehicle to show prospective customers the benefits of its products.
Three shrink-fit tooling units have been installed following a number of enquiries from a range of organisations looking to maximise the productivity in their day-to-day tasks with milling machines and
CNC lathes.
Many are hoping to "optimise tool life, accuracy and surface finish capability", the firm added.
Managing director of LMT Trevor Tolley said of the initiative: "Users of up to 32 mm diameter shank-style milling cutters are now realising that shrink-fit tool holding is not expensive to adopt and service and this semi-permanent system is not just the realm of high-speed
machining centres."
He took particular pride in the ThermoGrip technology developed by LMT, adding that for every ten microns of tool runout, "the effective life of the cutter could be reduced by ten per cent".
LMT operates three major sites in the world, running three in its home country of Germany alongside other facilities in Austria, France and the US.
